Washington Humane Society Celebrates Senior Companion Animals in November

?

This release comes to us from?Jacquie Toppings:

The Washington Humane Society (WHS) is celebrating?Adopt A Senior Dog?month in November by reducing adoption fees to help older shelter dogs and all of our ?senior? residents find their forever homes. Fees will be reduced by 50 percent on all senior pets and animals who have been in WHS shelters for longer than 30 days. To offer additional comfort to older dogs while they await adoption, The Grey Muzzle Organization, who recognized WHS for its commitment to improving the lives of older dogs through a grant to support senior programs, has donated orthopedic beds to the organization. Unlike standard beds, these specialty beds provide the extra support and comfort needed by senior dogs.?

?

?We hope that?Adopt A Senior Dog?month will entice adopters to meet our older and long-time pet residents, regardless of species; we have several wonderful senior animals who will make loving companions all year long,? said Stephanie Shain, Chief Operating Officer, Washington Humane Society. ?We are grateful to The Grey Muzzle Organization for helping us fulfill our commitment to providing our older adult dogs with extra comfort and care while they seek adoption.?

?

Senior pets spend more time in shelters because they are often overlooked for adoption by those seeking puppies and younger animals. However, many older pets are calm, well-mannered and already housetrained.

?

Sheeba, an affectionate 10-year-old Rottweiler in foster care, is patiently waiting to find her forever family. She is housetrained, has a calm demeanor and prefers casual strolls around the block to excessive cardio workouts. Sheeba plays well with others in the home, and wouldn't mind sharing her companion?s attention with another dog.?Tigger, a shy 8-year-old Maltese, is enjoying his special bed at the WHS shelter on Georgia Avenue while he awaits his forever home with his friend,?Casper.
