Seattle shooter who killed 5 was 'disgruntled,' dad says

The father of the man who opened fire and killed five people across Seattle, and later killed himself after a citywide manhunt, says his son was a very private person who was "disgruntled" and that he was a frequent customer at the coffee shop where his rampage began.

"He was happy sometimes, but not really. He was kind of disgruntled," Walt Stawicki said about his son Ian Stawicki, who fatally shot himself after a killing spree on Wednesday.

Seattle's Harborview Medical Center confirmed that Ian Stawicki, who according to his father was unmarried with no children and had recently worked on a fishing processing boat in Alaska, died at 6 p.m. PDT Wednesday.

After the shootings began at approximately 11 a.m. PDT, when Stawicki opened fire at Cafe Racer Espresso in Seattle's University District, eventually killing four people, he killed a fifth random woman in a subsequent confrontation and stole her car.

Two victims died at the scene at Cafe Racer Espresso, while two more died later after being taken to Harborview Medical Center. People who were brought to the hospital had suffered gunshot wounds to the head, according to Susan Gregg, a hospital spokeswoman.

According to the Seattle Times, two of the victims at the cafe were Joe "Vito" Albanese, 52, who was killed along with best friend Drew Keriakedes, 45; the two men were in a band called God's Favorite Beefcake. The two other victims shot at the cafe have not yet been identified.

The Seattle Times reports that the only survivor of today's shootings is Leonard Meuse, who is currently out of surgery at Harborview Medical Center after being shot in the jaw and the armpit. Meuse is expected to survive.

Though it was unclear what prompted the cafe shooting, Ian's brother Andrew Stawicki said that his girlfriend said he was acting "kind of crazy" Wednesday morning, and she would not let him have a car.

Ian apparently had his mother's pickup truck on Wednesday; the family currently does not know where the vehicle is located.

The late Wednesday morning shooting set off a massive manhunt throughout Seattle. Earlier in the day Seattle police had tweeted that the suspect "is still alive and receiving treatment at Harborview Medical Center."

The second shooting incident occurred in downtown Seattle, about a 15-minute drive from the cafe.

"It appears that about 30 minutes after the shooting at the cafe, the suspect in the cafe shooting fled to First Hill, where he fatally shot a woman in a parking lot, and stole her SUV," police wrote in a blog post on the shootings.

Ian Stawicki did not know married mother of two Gloria Leonidas, the woman he killed in the second shooting incident, according to his father. Koch reportedly died after being transported to Harborview Medical Center.

The area where the suspect shot himself was about seven miles southwest of downtown Seattle -- about a mile to a mile and a half from where the suspect's stolen black SUV was found abandoned with a gun on the seat, according to police.

During a search of the area, a detective spotted the suspect on the street and started watching him, police said. When back-up officers arrived and started moving toward the man, he turned to the officers and the officers ordered him to drop his weapon.

Instead, the suspect put a firearm to his head and pulled the trigger, firing one shot, and immediately dropped to the ground.

"Based on evidence recovered during today's investigations, SPD believes a lone suspect is responsible for the murders in Roosevelt and First Hill," police said in the blog post. "Still, neighbors should expect to see a heightened police presence as detectives work to confirm links between the two tragic incidents."

Roosevelt High School, which is near the cafe, was put on lockdown while police armed with rifles continued to search the area.

Two other nearby schools, Greenwood Elementary School and Eckstein Middle School, were put on a modified lockdown, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported.

No one answered the phone at Cafe Racer. A recorded message urged callers to "remember to come visit us, where we keep safety third."

"We've had two tragic shootings today that have shaken this city," Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn told reporters.

He said he has asked police to find ways to end the gun violence.

"It's their highest priority to identify the strategies we need to employ to try to bring an end to this wave of gun violence that this city is seeing," he said.

The Easy Route to Better Grout

Glazed ceramic tile is one of the most durable building products ever produced. It's wear- and stain-resistant, easy to clean, and impervious to water. When properly installed, a tiled surface can last for generations. Yet tile has an Achilles' heel: The grout used to fill the joints between the individual tiles is, by comparison, porous, soft, and easily stained. In most instances grout can be restored to like-new condition with a good cleaning. But in more extreme cases, the only solution may be to regrout the tile.

Clean It Up

If the grout is stained with dirt, mold, mildew, or soap scum, start by scrubbing it with a stiff-bristle nylon brush dipped in scouring powder. Then rinse the surface with clean water.

If the stains remain, mix a 50/50 solution of liquid chlorine bleach and water, and apply it to the grout with a sponge or a pump sprayer. (If using a sprayer, be sure it's rated for use with bleach. Bleach is too caustic for use in ordinary sprayers and plant misters.) Wait 10 minutes, then soak the grout with more bleach solution. After 10 more minutes, rinse off the surface with clean water.

Redo It

When grout is permanently stained, badly cracked, or crumbling out of the joints, you have no choice but to regrout the tiles. The first step is to remove the existing grout from between the tiles. Depending on the amount of damaged grout and the width of the grout joints, there are a few different tools to consider.

For smaller jobs with 1/4-inch or narrower grout joints, you can get by with a grout rake, which is a small hand tool that has a steel blade covered with super-sharp carbide grit. Simply pull the tool along the joints to "rake" out the grout. In most cases you don't have to remove every bit of grout. Removing about half of the grout is usually sufficient as long as the remaining grout is in good condition.

For larger jobs?say, more than about 30 square feet?or for grout joints wider than 1/4 inch, you need the speed and muscle of an electric tool. There are several motorized tools available for removing grout, including grinders, rotary tools, even reciprocating saws. However, the best tool for DIYers is an oscillating multitool fitted with a carbide-grit grout-removal blade. Because the multitool blade oscillates and doesn't spin at high speeds, it's much easier to control than most other tools. Plus, multitools are lightweight and feature compact, easy-grip handles.

Regardless of which tool you use to remove the grout, once the joints are cleaned out, you need to use a stiff-bristle nylon brush to scrub the joints of all dust, grit, and loose debris. Follow up with a wet/dry vacuum to ensure the joints are clean. Next, mix up a fresh batch of tile grout or buy a bucket of pre-mixed grout. Then, use a grout float to smear grout across the surface and deep into the joints.

Wait about 20 minutes, then use a large grout sponge and clean water to wipe the surface clean of all grout residue. Read the label on the grout container to find out how long it takes for the grout to cure (usually 48 hours or longer.) Once it's fully cured, apply a silicone-based sealer to the grout to increase its water and stain resistance.

Cory Booker's Communications Director Quits In Wake Of Obama ...

NEWS

Cory Booker is still facing backlash over his comments on Meet The Press, slamming President Obama's campaign tactics, and now a member of his team has abruptly quit. Booker's? communications director has resigned in wake the fading controversy.

Anne Torres?confirmed her resignation Tuesday (May 29) explaining that her position with the Newark, N.J. mayor had run its course. "I just decided it is best if I pursued other opportunities,"?Torres told The-Star Ledger via telephone. "We have very different views on how communications should be run."

Booker recently called Obama's attack on Mitt Romney's affiliation with Bain Capital ?nauseating,? and has been doing damage control ever since. The 43-year-old released a video online to explain his rant, and appeared on MSNBC to accuse the Republican Party of twisting his words for their own benefit.

In fact, we have begun our fourth year at roughly the same level of home sales in the Tallahassee MLS, a level that reflects about 50% of the normal amount of home sales for our area.

Tallahassee Real Estate Market Graph

Home sales in the Tallahassee real estate market began to dive in 2006 and did not stop until a bottom was found in August 2009. The real estate graph below shows the one year average of daily closed home sales in the Tallahassee real estate market.

Tallahassee Real Estate Market Graph Century 21 Manausa and Associates 1140 Capital Circle SE #12A Tallahassee, FL 32301 (850) 366-8917 www.manausa.com

With the exception of the Homebuyer Tax Credit which pushed sales up for the summer of 2010, we have seen home sales in the Tallahassee real estate market stay fairly steady at roughly 6 closed per day.

The Real Tallahassee Real Estate Market

Despite the best efforts of the National Association of Realtors to puff NAR real estate reports, the graph above shows the reality that we face in Tallahassee.

Home sellers should study the market and try to understand the depth of their competition. The average relative supply of homes stands above 11 months of supply, and some of the higher price points are measured in years.

This means that competition is tougher today than it was just three months ago. More people in Tallahassee want to sell a home than buy a home, so you have to position your home wisely.

And if you absolutely need to sell a home in Tallahassee, it is not too late.

You need to use the top progressive home selling plan, and you need to work with a real estate company that can aggressively market your home for sale every single day.

Join the thousands of happy home sellers who got rid of their homes, despite poor housing market conditions.

Don?t make the mistake of ?testing? the market, rather attack the Tallahassee real estate market with the best strategy available in real estate today.

Customs stops delaying HTC One X and EVO 4G LTE devices after 'review'

HTC-branded crates have been trickling through customs for ten days already, following a total clamp-down earlier in May, but it's only now that they're able to pass through without lengthy extra checks. The manufacturer says it has "completed the review process with US Customs" and that it is "confident that we will soon be able to meet the demand for our products." That obviously raises the question as to why the HTC One X and EVO 4G LTE devices were held up in the first place. The ITC had earlier ruled that HTC infringed on an Apple patent about data detection, concerning a handset's ability to recognize and move around personal data, for example between the contact entry and the calendar, and it had given HTC until April to remove that feature. HTC agreed to that, but it appears customs officials initially needed to check every box to ensure that products arriving in the US were of the compliant type. Meanwhile, the LTE part of the EVO 4G is still waiting for its luggage.

'Eco-Anarchists' Targeting Nuclear and Nanotech Workers

The blurb starts with "A loose coalition of eco-anarchist groups is increasingly launching violent attacks on scientists." But then one of the links is to Raytheon. By and large Raytheon does not have scientists working for it studying black holes and the like. It has engineers, and those engineers are designing missiles, to be used in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, and so forth. I see mention that eco-anarchists are launching violent attacks when they shut down train tracks, not much mention that engineers at Raytheon are involved in violent attacks all over the world.

Also the "nuclear engineering" executive mentioned in the blurb was working at Finmeccanica, another merchant in the death trade. He's an executive at another company in the death trade. Not a scientist, not even an engineer. Yet Nature headlines the article "Anarchists attack science".

There has been bombing, executions and sabotages against Iran's nuclear program. A nuclear power program which at one time the US establishment whole-heartedly endorsed [wikipedia.org]. Why the hue and cry about an attack on a nuclear executive in Italy, which is an "attack on science", but not a word about this. Isn't shooting nuclear scientists in Iran an "attack on science"? Where are the articles on Slashdot, Nature and so forth bemoaning this?

It's just simple propaganda. An executive making money on explosives killing people is himself attacked. So the lie must come into play, it is an attack on science. Disrupting Raytheon's blood profits by shutting down railroads for a day are a violent attack on scientists.

From a moral standpoint, I have no problem with what these bombers and gunmen are doing. At best it would be justified, at worst it is simply eye-for-an-eye, tit-for-tat - one band of killers attacking another band of killers. I feel more secure that people are out there attacking Raytheon, Finmeccanica etc. executives than not. So mark that down, NSA listeners who are now monitoring domestically [wikipedia.org] due to the Patriot Act.

While I feel it's certainly morally justified, or at least equivalent, from a tactical and strategic standpoint I don't see this as a necessary thing for the average American to do. There's plenty of legitimate and legal work that can be done - organization, education and the like, which is ultimately more effective. Even at Reagan's height HE [wikipedia.org] was the one who had to go underground to fund Contras, not the domestic opposition to him. With elections, the first amendment, right to assemble and so forth still intact, I can't see much tactical or strategic reason for an American to do this sort of thing in the US. In Italy, with its history ( P2 [wikipedia.org], Gladio [wikipedia.org], elections fixed by foreign powers [wikipedia.org]) it may make more sense, I don't know the situation on the ground there as well. The people who lit bombs in the 1960s like Bill Ayers, Diana Oughton etc. were generally children of the wealthy, working class activists like the Black Panthers and other organizations were not at that level of militancy, they felt free breakfast programs and organization and education was the important thing.

Channel Islands Earthquake Felt In Malibu, West LA, Culver City & San Fernando Valley

By Associated Press

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) -- A small earthquake has jolted the Southern California coast but there are no reports of damages or injuries.

The U.S. Geological Survey says in a preliminary report that the magnitude-4.0 quake struck in the Channel Islands region at 10:14 p.m. Tuesday.

The USGS says the earthquake was centered 30 miles southwest of Malibu and was felt throughout the Los Angeles area, especially in West LA, Santa Monica and the San Fernando Valley.

Sheriff's and fire officials say there are no reports of damages or injuries from the quake, and the Los Angeles Fire Department is not in earthquake mode.

Brandon David Wilson, a school teacher who lives in the Culver City area, said on Twitter that he felt the earthquake, but it was "just a sharp jolt. No big whoop."

Economists: Iceland should adopt Canadian ... - IceNews - Daily News

Iceland should replace the krona with the Canadian dollar if it wants to stabilise its shaky economy, two financial experts have suggested. Arsaell Valfells and Heidar Gudjonsson told an economics forum in Toronto this week that the government should not discount the idea of adopting Canada?s currency, even though it says it will join the euro if accepted into the EU.

Gudjonsson, who is chairman of the Centre for Social and Economic Research think-tank, said that if the change was made, foreign investment would return to Iceland, helping boost the country?s economy to the level seen before the 2008 banking crisis. He added that Icelanders would happily accept the currency due to close historic ties between the northern neighbours.

?If Iceland would adopt another currency, it would immediately cut interest rates in half, which would mean massive improvements for households, and that would also help drive investments, create jobs and increase disposable income,? Gudjonsson said.

He added that the practicalities of the change could be very simple, as Iceland would just need to buy around CAD 300 million, ship them over and pass an emergency law to make it the official currency. The economist Gudhonsson the Icelandic government could do this in ?about one weekend?, and even without Canada?s permission. They could, ?get the money on Saturday and it?ll be in the banks by Monday,? he claimed.

However, Gudjonsson admitted that a more likely course of action would be for Iceland to discuss the matter with both Canada and the International Monetary Fund in a process that would take about three months. He said picking an exchange rate would only take about ?one hour?, with around ISK 125 to the dollar the most likely outcome.

(AP) ? On a windy day at Wrigley Field, the fortunes finally blew in the Chicago Cubs' favor.

The Cubs stopped their 12-game losing streak, getting a boost from Alfonso Soriano's go-ahead home run to beat the San Diego Padres 11-7 Monday.

"It's a big relief," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "It shows you sometimes how tough it is to win a major league baseball game."

The Cubs' skid was their worst since they opened the 1997 season with 14 straight losses.

"I think now everybody is more relaxed," Soriano said. "Now we have to keep doing our jobs and win some games."

"We have to turn it around. You have to believe in this team because we're not that bad."

The gusts were blowing out at 35 mph on a 90-degree afternoon and the ball was flying. There were eight home runs, including four by each team and two from San Diego's Chase Headley, and a total of 17 extra-base hits.

Chicago trailed 7-6 in the sixth inning when Soriano launched a drive off Alex Hinshaw (0-1) over the right-field bleachers onto Waveland Avenue.

Soriano had three hits and drove in three runs. Ian Stewart and Starlin Castro each homered and drove in three for the Cubs. Darwin Barney also homered and David DeJesus tripled twice.

"We haven't had a game like that in a while where we have a lot of guys break out and get multiple hits, driving the ball," said Stewart. "Losing that many in a row was getting old."

Stewart also had a big day in the field, cutting down the potential game-tying run in the seventh when he threw out Headley trying to score on a grounder to third.

"I take a lot of pride in my defense, so whenever I can make a play out there, it makes me feel good," he said.

Everth Cabrera and Will Venable connected for San Diego, which lost its fourth in a row. The Padres hadn't hit more than two home runs in a game all season and came into the game last in the majors with only 18 overall.

Headley had four hits, including a double.

"Right off the bat, I think you knew it was going to be an offensive game," Padres manager Bud Black said. "It was good see a number of guys swing the bats, get multiple hits. Hopefully, that can carry over ? not only tomorrow but moving through the week."

Randy Wells (1-1) picked up the win in relief.

Barney hit a solo shot in the second and Stewart's two-run shot capped a three-run fourth that put the Cubs ahead 6-4.

Castro hit an 0-2 pitch onto Waveland to pad the one-run lead in the seventh.

Headley hit a tying homer leading off the fourth, then tied it again with a two-run drive in the fifth.

It was Headley's second multihomer game of the year. He has seven home runs this season after hitting just four in 113 games in 2011.

"When it's hot and you come here and the wind's blowing, you're going to be rewarded for good swings," Headley said. "When the conditions are like that, you know you have to put up a good amount of runs to be able to win the game."

Carlos Quentin hit an RBI double in his Padres' debut to give San Diego a 1-0 lead and snap their streak of 26 scoreless innings.

Quentin was activated from the 15-day disabled list prior to the game. He had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in March after being acquired from the Chicago White Sox on Dec. 31.

DeJesus got the Cubs going in the first with a leadoff triple and scoring on Castro's single. Castro stole second and later scored on Bryan LaHair's groundout.

Cubs starter Travis Wood lasted just five innings. He was tagged for a season-high six runs on seven hits, including four home runs.

San Diego starter Jeff Suppan yielded six runs over five innings.

NOTES: Cabrera's solo shot in the fourth was his first homer since July 11, 2010. ... The Padres optioned OF Blake Tekotte to Triple-A Tucson to make room on the roster for Quentin. ... San Diego OF Cameron Maybin (sprained right wrist) missed his second straight game after leaving in the sixth inning Saturday. He remains day-to-day. ... Padres RHP Huston Street (right shoulder strain) felt "really good" after throwing off a mound Sunday, Black said. He is scheduled to throw another bullpen on Wednesday. ... The Cubs activated RHP Carlos Marmol from the 15-day DL and optioned RHP Rafael Dolis to Triple-A Iowa. ... Jeff Samardzija (4-3, 3.00 ERA) will pitch for the Cubs on Tuesday against San Diego's Eric Stults (1-0, 1.96).

Iran, other Mideast states hit by computer virus

LONDON (AP) ? Iran and other Middle East countries have been hit with a cunning computer virus that can eavesdrop on computer users and their co-workers and filch information from nearby cellphones, cybersecurity experts said Tuesday. And suspicion immediately fell on Israel as the culprit.

The Russian Internet security firm Kaspersky Lab ZAO said the "Flame" virus is unprecedented in size and complexity, with researcher Roel Schouwenberg marveling at its versatility.

"It can be used to spy on everything that a user is doing," he said.

Computers in Iran appear to have been particularly affected, and Kaspersky's conclusion that the virus was crafted at the behest of a national government fueled speculation it could be part of an Israeli-backed campaign of electronic sabotage against the Jewish state's archenemy.

The virus can activate a computer's audio systems to listen in on Skype calls or office chatter. It can also take screenshots, log keystrokes and ? in one of its more novel functions? steal data from Bluetooth-enabled cellphones.

Schouwenberg said there is evidence to suggest that the people behind Flame also helped craft Stuxnet, a virus that is believed to have attacked nuclear centrifuges in Iran in 2010. Many suspect Stuxnet was the work of Israeli intelligence.

Tehran has not said whether it lost any data to Flame, but a unit of the Iranian communications and information technology ministry said it has produced an anti-virus capable of identifying and removing Flame from its computers.

Israel's vice premier did little to deflect suspicion about the country's possible involvement in the attack.

"Whoever sees the Iranian threat as a significant threat is likely to take various steps, including these, to hobble it," Moshe Yaalon told Army Radio when asked about Flame. "Israel is blessed with high technology, and we boast tools that open all sorts of opportunities for us."

Researchers not involved in Flame's discovery were more skeptical of its sophistication than Kaspersky, with Richard Bejtlich of Virginia-based Mandiant saying the virus appeared similar to spyware used by the German government to monitor criminal suspects.

"There have been tool like this employed by high-end teams for many years," he said.

Colorado-based Webroot said the virus wasn't as complex or as stealthy as Stuxnet and was "a relatively easy threat to identify."

Flame is unusually large. Malicious programs collected by the British security firm Sophos averaged about 340 kilobytes in 2010, the same year that Kaspersky believes Flame first started spreading. Flame is 20 megabytes ? nearly 60 times that figure.

Alan Woodward, a professor of computing at the University of Surrey in England, said functions can be added or subtracted to the virus depending on what kind of espionage is desired, not unlike the way apps can be downloaded to a smartphone.

He was particularly struck by Flame's ability to turn an infected computer into a kind of "industrial vacuum cleaner," copying data from vulnerable cellphones or other Bluetooth wireless devices left near it.

"I don't believe I've seen it before," he said.

Udi Mokady, chief executive of Cyber-Ark, an Israeli developer of information security, said he believes four countries, in no particular order, have the know-how to develop so sophisticated a weapon: Israel, the U.S., China and Russia.

"It was 20 times more sophisticated than Stuxnet," with thousands of lines of code that took a large team, ample funding and months, if not years, to develop, he said. "It's a live program that communicates back to its master. It asks, 'Where should I go? What should I do now?' It's really almost like a science fiction movie."

It's not clear exactly what the virus was targeting. Kaspersky said it detected the program in hundreds of computers, mainly in Iran but also in Israel, the Palestinian territories, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

The company would not give details on the victims except to say that they "range from individuals to certain state-related organizations or educational institutions."

Schouwenberg said stolen data was being sent to some 80 different servers, something that would give the virus' controllers time to adjust their tactics if they were discovered.

As for Flame's purpose, "maybe it's just espionage," he said. "Maybe it's also sabotage."

Is 3D the Next Big Thing in Online Gambling?

  • Business | 29th May, 2012 | London, UK | 3D Technology ? Video
  • Multimedia and visual graphics innovation has expanded 3D technology to a variety of entertainment industries including gaming. The technology is making inroads in online poker and bingo games. But how much a difference can it make in the online gaming industry.

3D Online GamingWhat is 3D technology? It is computer graphics that generates and projects three-dimensional objects into a two-dimensional space, such as a movie theatre, TV or PC monitor.

As opposed to 2D graphics where pixels only have position, colour and brightness, 3D pixels add depth and support the interaction of multiple objects with one another. When many such pixels come together, it results in texture and gives a realistic image. Recent movies such as the successful Avatar and Toy Story have used 3D technology to enhance the illusion of depth of perception.

Thanks to this advancement in technology, one can be tricked into believing that the flat computer screen is actually a series of rooms, extending one beyond the other or the game being played is almost like a real life experience. Naturally then, the use of 3D in media has better response from audience.

To say that use of 3D technology in Gaming has been existent for a while is an understatement. Game programmers have been making use of this technology to create simulated environments which replicate the real world in depth and illusions.

The gaming specific to the gambling industry has only recently introduced 3D.

Until now, online gambling sites have been content with 2D designs but owing to the enhanced user experience, more such sites have begun opting for 3D in their design elements.

3D has made its way to online poker sites as far as main-stream gambling is considered. The poker site to have first introduced the real and fully customised 3D is PKR Poker, which was released in 2006. Today, Ladbrokes Poker and 888 Poker, along with PKR Poker are leading the use of 3D in their games. The trend seems to have caught on in the online bingo industry and Bingo3X, a brand new online bingo site, is at the forefront.

Just launched online bingo site Bingo3X has used 3D to build their brand story through their brand mascots which are 3D Characters. These characters feature an array of stunningly funny expressions and are able to perform actions that are very close to real life. The Characters further have full blown social profiles on Facebook making them more real and live.

Thanks to this real and virtual interaction, the gaming site has been able to make a strong social and emotional connect with its players entertaining them more than ever. Considering the competition in the bingo industry, this is a brilliant marketing move by the guys at Bingo3X. They are doing all things right to stand out of the box!

Diamonds ? Why it Remains to Be One of the Top Women's Interests ...

    by Tjflex2

Women just love diamonds. For centuries and until today, these shiny, shimmering splendors continue to be on the list of top women?s interests. They say that only women of the upper class think about having diamond-clad jewelry; however there are also beliefs that even women in the lower class dream about having one. Even if a lady may not look interested or made no mention of it, diamonds are every woman?s secret wish.

So why are women so fascinated with diamonds? For some the answer may be obvious but read on the following reasons so that you may fully understand.

Diamonds are beautiful. Yes there are a number of gemstones which come in varied colors but no other gemstone sparkles with absolute beauty and radiance like diamonds. Real, perfectly cut diamonds, no matter how small they are, would glisten and will put any lady in a mesmerized trance.

Diamonds are nature?s mystique. It is true; diamonds are just basically a big mass of carbon. However, the way nature formed it is not as simple as its composition. They are formed approximately 100 miles below the earth?s surface. Scientists say that large carbon deposits in the Earth?s upper mantle were subjected to extreme heat and pressure for millions of years. This resulted to the alteration in the molecular bonding of the substance until a natural diamond is created. Volcanic activity then takes these diamond-laden rocks to the surface. Diamonds are a product of nature?s very wonder and mystique. This is one of the reasons why they are highly precious.

Diamonds are fruits of labor and hard work. The diamonds that reach the earth?s surface still look far from the ones sold on stores. In order to obtain them, extensive yet careful mining is performed. Mined rough diamonds are then subjected to multiple processes to completely extract pure natural diamonds. These pure diamonds should then be analyzed and cut only an expert diamond cutter. This process is a very crucial part because it will highly determine the beauty and thus the value of the stone. It requires specialized knowledge, tools, knowledge, experience, hard work and maximum care and precision. Genuine diamond jewelry all passed in so many hands, but all these hands have held them with utmost care and love.

Diamonds are eternal. Because of the extreme hardness of genuine diamonds, they are highly durable and damage-resistant. For the lady who receives them from a lover, it may signify an everlasting love and affection.

Diamonds are status symbols. It is a known fact that authentic diamonds are extravagant. A woman who could afford it for herself exemplifies high level of success. Meanwhile, a lady who receives diamond jewelry from her beloved can look forward to an abundant life together.

Diamonds are highly stylish and elegant. Yeah diamonds sparkle with tremendous beauty but the price tag that comes along with it raised it to the level of royal elegance. It can make any lady as glamorous as an A-list Hollywood star. Aside from this ladies just love all the attention and envy they are receiving each time they adorn themselves with these exquisite symbols of luxury.

Diamonds make ladies feel very special. Above all else, this is the most cherished reason by every girl around the globe. Firstly, diamonds may cost 2-3 months worth a gentleman?s salary, except for those who are millionaires of course. But not every girl has a millionaire boyfriend. Most women are in love and are loved by their average Joes. This is why when a man gives her girl a diamond jewelry, this will tell her that she is worth all that money and hard work. It will make her feel highly coveted and special, and thus she deserves the best. This will then enhance her self-worth.

True, a woman loves a diamond because of its luxury, but most importantly it reminds her how much she is loved and valued by the very person she loves as well.

FILE - In this March 23, 2012 file photo, Vatican Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone, left, looks on as Pope Benedict XVI talks to journalists during a press conference aboard the flight to Silao, Mexico. An already sordid scandal over leaked Vatican documents took a Hollywood-like turn Saturday, May 26, 2012 with confirmation that the pope's own butler had been arrested after documents he had no business having were found in his Vatican City apartment. The "Vatileaks" scandal has seriously embarrassed the Vatican at a time when it is trying to show the world financial community that it has turned a page and shed its reputation as a scandal plagued tax haven. Bertone, 77, has been blamed for a series of gaffes and management problems that have plagued Benedict's papacy and, according to the leaked documents, generated a not inconsiderable amount of ill will directed at him from other Vatican officials. FILE - In this Monday, April 21, 2008 file photo, Pope Benedict XVI, left, arrives at the Italian air force 31st Squadron base in Ciampino, 30 kilometers (19 miles) southeast of Rome, on his way back from a six-day trip to the U.S. including the U.N. and Ground Zero in New York. The Vatican has confirmed Saturday, May 26, 2012, that the pope's butler Paolo Gabriele, at right carrying bags, was arrested in an embarrassing leaks scandal. Spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi said Paolo Gabriele, a layman, was arrested in his home inside Vatican City with secret documents in his possession. This file photo taken Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, shows the building, left, which hosts the Vatican bank, formerly known as the Institute for Religious Operas, I.O.R., inside the Vatican. Ettore Gotti Tedeschi, head of the I.O.R. was ousted after a no-confidence vote of the I.O.R. governing body on Thursday, May 24, 2012. The "Vatileaks" scandal has seriously embarrassed the Vatican at a time during which it is trying to show the world financial community that it has turned a page and shed its reputation as a scandal plagued tax haven. Vatican documents leaked to the press in recent months have undermined that effort, alleging corruption in Vatican finance as well as internal bickering over the Holy See's efforts to show more transparency in its financial operations. But perhaps most critically, the leaks have seemed aimed at one main goal: to discredit Pope Benedict XVI's No. 2, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican secretary of state. (AP) ? The biggest scandal to rock the Vatican in decades widened Monday with the pope's butler, arrested for allegedly having confidential documents in his home, agreeing to cooperate with investigators ? raising the specter that higher-ranking ecclesial heads may soon roll.

Few believe butler Paolo Gabriele worked alone to leak dozens of documents shedding light on power struggles, corruption and intrigue inside the highest levels of the Catholic Church. The leaks have tormented the Vatican for months and painted a picture of a church hierarchy in utter disarray.

Gabriele, the pope's personal butler since 2006, was arrested Wednesday evening after Holy See documents were found inside his Vatican City apartment, adding an unfathomable Hollywood twist to the already sordid Vatileaks scandal. He remains in custody in a Vatican detention facility, accused of theft, and has met with his wife and lawyers.

Gabriele's lawyer, Carlo Fusco, said Monday that his client was "very serene and calm," despite the whirlwind of speculation surrounding his arrest. He said Gabriele himself had told the Vatican judge investigating the case that he would "respond to all the questions and will collaborate with investigators to ascertain the truth."

Italian media reported Monday that a cardinal is suspected of playing a major role in the scandal. However, the Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, denied the reports categorically. He said many Vatican officials were being questioned but insisted "there is no cardinal under suspicion."

But Lombardi acknowledged that the investigation continues.

And on Monday, the Italian daily La Repubblica published a rambling interview with what it described as another Vatican "mole," someone who described the various agendas at play behind the leaks.

The unnamed leaker said the aim was to show how weak Pope Benedict XVI is, the fears of his secretary of state, and to make clear that the "fundamental role of the church is to defend the Gospel, not accumulate power and money."

Lombardi dismissed as "pure fantasy" such a rash of unsourced reports about the investigation in the Italian media, which have been on a frenzy ever since reports of Gabriele's detention emerged Friday.

Gabriele, a 46-year-old father of three, was always considered extremely loyal to Benedict and his predecessor, John Paul II, for whom he briefly served. Vatican insiders have said they were baffled by his alleged involvement, and Lombardi said Monday that the entire scandal has caused pain throughout the Vatican.

Benedict, who in March appointed a commission of cardinals to investigate the leaks, was being kept informed of developments and is "aware of the delicate situation that the Roman curia is going through," Lombardi said.

He acknowledged the "negative image" of the Vatican that was emerging from the scandal but said the developments made it ever more important to "reestablish a climate of clarity, truth, transparency and trust as soon as possible."

The Vatileaks scandal broke in January when Italian journalist Gianluigi Nuzzi broadcast letters from the former No. 2 Vatican administrator to the pope in which he begged not to be transferred for having exposed alleged corruption that cost the Holy See millions of euros in higher contract prices. The prelate, Monsignor Carlo Maria Vigano, is now the Vatican's U.S. ambassador.

The scandal widened over the following months with documents leaked to Italian journalists that laid bare power struggles inside the Vatican over its efforts to show greater financial transparency and comply with international norms to fight money laundering. There was even a leak of a memo claiming that Benedict would die this year.

The scandal reached a peak last weekend, when Nuzzi published an entire book based on a trove of new documentation, including personal correspondence to and from the pope and his private secretary, much of which paints Benedict's No. 2, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, in a negative light.

Vito Mancuso, an Italian theologian, told reporters at a press launch of the book "His Holiness" that the documents, many of which point to Bertone's involvement in scandals that have afflicted the papacy, all appeared aimed at providing evidence for why he should resign.

"Looking at the documents in succession, it seems like you're seeing a series of bullets aimed at hitting Bertone," Mancuso said.

Bertone, 77, was Benedict's loyal No. 2 at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith before being named secretary of state. With no diplomatic or broad administrative experience coming into the job, he has earned not a few critics inside the Vatican bureaucracy.

The Vatican probe into the leaks is actually working on several tracks: Vatican magistrates are pursuing the criminal investigation, and Gabriele was arrested as part of that. The Vatican secretariat of state is pursuing an administrative probe. And the three cardinals appointed by Benedict are acting in a sort of supervisory role, looking beyond the narrow criminal scope of the leaks to interview broadly across the Vatican bureaucracy, Lombardi said.

They report directly to the pope and can both share information with Vatican prosecutors and receive information from them, Lombardi said.

The group is headed by Cardinal Julian Herranz, an Opus Dei prelate who headed the Vatican's legal office as well as the disciplinary commission of the Vatican bureaucracy before retiring.

Gabriele's arrest occurred almost simultaneously with another stunning development inside the secretive walls of the Vatican: the ouster of Benedict's hand-picked president of the Vatican bank, Ettore Gotti Tedeschi, himself close to Opus. The bank's board took a vote of no-confidence last week to oust him for failing to do his job.

Bank board member Carl Anderson told The Associated Press that the ouster had no political undertones and that the board wasn't taking cues from Bertone. He said it was purely a business decision since Gotti Tedeschi had become an obstacle to the bank's efforts to be more transparent in its financial dealings. Gotti Tedeschi hasn't responded to the accusations.

The chaos of the scandal came amid new developments in one of the Vatican's most enduring mysteries, the case of Emanuela Orlandi, the 15-year-old daughter of a Vatican employee who disappeared in 1983 while on her way to a music lesson in Rome.

On Sunday, Orlandi's brother led a march to the Vatican in hope that Benedict would offer them a prayer following the unearthing of the tomb of a mobster alleged to have kidnapped her. The crypt, inside an Opus Dei church in Rome, yielded hundreds of old bone fragments that are being examined for a trace of the girl.
