Left Foot Charley in Traverse City and cadets at NMC's Maritime Academy are continuing their partnership to raise money for a local family in need through their annual Crockpot Cook-Off. This year's beneficiary is Cody Hayes of Cedar, a 15-year-old Glen Lake High School student who was recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and is undergoing treatment at the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids. Participants will gather at Left Foot Charley starting at 1 p.m. to show off their crockpot cooking skills, with "People's Choice" and "Chef's Choice" trophies up for grabs. There is a $5 suggested cover charge at the door, and throughout the day, $1 from every drink sold will go to Hayes. The Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn will host this annual celebration featuring wine and beer tasting, wine and food pairings, special seminars and an opportunity to camp. The Wineries of Old Mission Peninsula will celebrate the beauty of OMP in the spring with weekend festivities highlighting unreleased wine samplings.
